An Inglewood couple has developed and is selling a waterless, organic and hypoallergenic carwash spray. Based on chemicals used to clean race cars, the liquid acts as a surfactant, lifting, suspending and encapsulating the dirt, which can then be wiped off, leaving a carwash finish and sheen. They started marketing the spray and the service under the name Green Earth Waterless Car Wash five months ago, and water conservation is a key message for the company. The California Energy Commission on Wednesday approved an aggressive plan to fund research and push the use of 10 alternative fuels -- a step considered crucial to the state's twin goals of cutting its dependence on petroleum and sharply reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The plan recommends that the statewide use of alternative fuels grow to 9% in five years, 11% in 10 years and 26% in 15 years. The targets apply to fuels used by trucks and cars as well as construction and agricultural vehicles but does not incorporate fuel used by planes, trains or boats. LA Times 11/1/07
Nine thousand Oakland port workers will have to enroll next month in a new identification program required by the Department of Homeland Security to prevent terrorists from infiltrating the Port of Oakland. At an October 25 CARB public meeting the California Chamber of Commerce said state regulators should thoroughly analyze the economic impact of proposed rules to reduce greenhouse gas emissions before putting those requirements into effect. The meeting was focusing on the proposed requirements for the first group of industries to be regulated under AB 32.
