In his State of the State address, Governor Schwarzenegger announced he would again propose "a constitutional amendment so that our spending has some relationship with our revenues," declaring that uncontrolled spending was the cause of the current financial crisis in California government. He did not declare a fiscal state of emergency, however.  KCRA 1/09/08

 

A report put out in association with UC Fresno concludes that air freight might gain importance on trucking in getting California produce to market. Ag products shipped by air saw an increase of nearly 25 percent compared to 10 years ago, accounting for $579 million in sales last year. The reports data counts domestic shipping, but also highlights the growing international market for Cali ag. Fresh Plaza 1/07/08

 

Truckers who are base plated in California face another idling-related obstacle – the ability to renew or register their truck. According to a California state government memo the California Department of Motor Vehicles may refuse registration, renewal or transfer of registration for commercial vehicles if the truck's owner was cited for violating the state's five-minute idling limit. In the State's ongoing emissions battle, California's Air Resources Board (ARB) has come to agreements with two more major corporations in the motorcycle industry. Pep Boys Co. and Yamaha have agreed to pay settlements in separate cases brought by California's Air Resources Board (ARB) over sales of vehicles that did not conform to ARB emissions standards, ARB announced. This case involved the importation or delivery of non-California certified motorcycles to California residents that were subsequently registered or sold in California, which is prohibited by Health and Safety Code sections 43150 and Business and Professions Code Sections 17200 and 17500. Traffic at the nation's major retail container ports ended a four-month slump in December, rising above the previous year's level for the first time since mid-summer, according to estimates from the monthly Port Tracker report released Tuesday by the National Retail Federation and Global Insight.
